October 20, 2026 Profile Drafting Workshop Write-up & Pictures:
Thirteen Madison Weavers Guild members participated in a 2½-day profile-drafting workshop with Deb Essen at Schumacher Farm Park in Waunakee, WI, Oct 6-8, 2026.
We started out with an overview of profiling drafting definitions and then jumped in to practice creating our own design for 2, 3 and 4-block patterns.
After this practice session, we were each assigned to 5 groups, for each of the following weave structures:
Summer & Winter
Huck Lace
Bronson Lace
Turned Twill
Crackle
Each of our assignments was to create our own block pattern for our assigned weave structure and our specific loom. Once this was completed, we warped our looms for these specifications and then sampled our design on our loom.
Then the real fun begins, with us each having the opportunity to sample 13 different designs on each of the weavers’ looms.
